Well after a VERY full house in April and May, all of a sudden I find myself with quietness all around today! My hubby took lil Allan to CA for a long weekend, and Samuel is in school during the day, so Martha and I have been wandering around the house trying to figure out what to do with ourselves. She’s only 2, but she had some good suggestions. (Read a book, Mama… I want a snack, Mama… Read another book, Mama).

We had a nice snack (Doritos and grapes – nothing like mixing healthy with NOT so healthy, but it was a special treat)… and we read the same book SIX times, before she was ready to move on to something else. Good times!

I have been debating all morning about whether I should take a nap during naptime or not (I rarely do that, especially now that I’m getting good sleep at night)… OR if I should get some more work done (samples for my shops)… OR if I should do some digi-scrappin.

I just got Martha to sleep, and I think digi-scrappin’ is gonna win! After I finish the blog post, of course.

Now… to figure out WHICH pictures to work on. I’m so far behind I don’t even know where to begin. Maybe I’ll just open up my pictures folder and scrap the first picture I click on. I’ll let you know how it goes…

What are YOU working on this weekend?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Just a note to anyone looking for digi-scrap supplies – I have a SALE going on in the DigiScrapChat shop this weekend. Everything is 25% off… )
So, tomorrow (March 1st) is Samuel’s 7th birthday. For about a month now, we’ve been (or rather HE has been) counting down the days until this weekend. With his birthday on a Sunday, we decided to have his PARTY on Saturday. That’s today. FINALLY! (A person can only take so many “how many more days, mom… how many more days?”)
Samuel asked for, and is getting, a party at Chuck E Cheese. You know, loud atmosphere, iffy pizza, all the sodas they can drink, and free tokens for all the kids that will last about 5.2 minutes. I really cannot wait!
(Side note – we can tell the effects of the economy because there are NO other parties scheduled for noon today. Good news for us, bad for the economy).
So, for about two months now (basically since Christmas), Samuel has been keeping us updated on the “long list” of what he wants for his birthday. It’s a really simple list, actually. If it doesn’t start with “bion” and end in “icle”, he doesn’t want it. There just happen to be about 106 different kinds of Bionicles one can get. (And if you ask me, they all look about 95% the same).
I think it’s a boy thing, because I can’t remember ever being THIS obsessed with ANYTHING. But Samuel? He is OBSESSED!! The child starts playing with his bionicle pieces the moment he wakes up, and I have to physically take them away to get him to eat breakfast and get ready for school. He walks through the door at the end of the school day, and is playing with Bionicles before he takes his coat or shoes off. And bedtime? Forget it. Lately, we send them off to bed and 2 hours later we can hear the sounds of plastic lego pieces snapping together and coming apart.
The child is Over The Moon Obsessed with Bionicles.
During his class party yesterday (which basically consisted of me bringing in cupcakes, and lots of messy faces and hands), he regaled the entire class with tales of Bionicles.
“Um, they are plastic… and they have lots of little pieces, and you can put them together in all kinds of ways. They have little ones, medium ones, big ones…. “ On and on he went, and apparently it was intriguing enough, because all 15 sets of eyes were on him while he described his passion.
So, you know… that is ALL he wants for his birthday. And I’ve tried to let people know when they ask what he wants.
The problem is, to someone who is NOT obsessed with them – they all really do look the same, except they come in a few different colors. The least the Lego company could have done was give them EASY names to remember. But, uh, no. They have names like Toa Gali and Toa Tahu and Kresh and Qskdjf. Ok, not the last one, but they may as well be that hard. Samuel has only told me a MILLION times (not an exaggeration) which ones he wants, and when I went to Walmart? Darned if I couldn’t remember a single name.
I ended up with this guy:
At least I think that’s the one I got. I know he has two others from this particular “series” of characters. I think.
At this point, I’m just hoping that folks accidentally get him 1) Bionicles and 2) different Bionicles.
Although when I asked Samuel what he would do if people got him the same one, he said, “NO problem – I’ll just put them together to make a GREAT BIG one”. This was after getting over his incredulity that anyone would NOT know which ones he wants and get him the RIGHT ones.
So, we’ll get ready this morning and head to the house of mouse and pizza around lunchtime. And we’ll keep our fingers crossed for a few Bionicles. (Note to self: have discussion with Samuel about the possibility that he might get OTHER gifts besides Bionicles. Encourage thankfulness in spite of bionicle-less gift).
Oh, one last thing. When discussing his cake, he suggested the REALLY COOL IDEA that we put Bionicles on TOP of it for decoration. Now, I frowned a minute when he said this, because I’m thinking, “yeah, I am not spending money on NEW Bionicles for your cake, and there is NO WAY I’m putting the Bionicle pieces on the cake that you have been playing with every day with your grubby little 6 year old boy DIRTY hands”.
He had the perfect solution, of course. Sometime in the last month or two, McDonalds or Burger King had mini Bionicles as their kids’ meal toys. (OH, the JOY!) We happen to have a few of these miniature size, cute little Bionicles. (Well, cute is the wrong word, but you know what I mean). SO, Samuel thinks these would be the PERFECT thing to put on the cake.
It was actually a pretty good idea, because it’s SIMPLE and quick and wow, the cake will be decorated in a jiffy! So, yesterday? I put four mini Bionicles in the dishwasher to be cleaned up for cake decorating duty. Since that time, Samuel has found three more in the toy box, but I told him the cake isn’t THAT big. Four Bionicles on the cake should do it.
I just hope there is room for the candle!
Happy Saturday, everyone!
P.S. Does anyone know of any Bionicle related digital scrapbook kits?
I was all set to do a little digi-scrappin’ last night…I had a couple of fun Easter layout ideas I wanted to get “on paper”. (On screen? On digital canvas?) Anyway, my plans did not go according to… well, plan. Instead of playing on my computer for a couple of hours before bed last night, I spent some quality time with my hubby in the ER.
Actually in TWO ERs.
We tried going to the ER closest to the house first, but that was a big mistake. We sat for almost an HOUR and hadn’t even spoken to a live human being (unless you count the VERY RUDE lady who was sitting, talking on the phone and filing her nails and could barely be bothered to half-way point us in the direction we needed to go – seriously, I should have asked her name because she was about 100 miles less than professional). Um, where was I? Oh yes, after waiting an HOUR to even see a triage nurse, we decided to head to the ER where we always take the kids. Sure, it’s farther away, but we like they way they do things – their routine, their triage, their way of, oh you know, letting you see a nurse before tomorrow comes!
And yes, we’ve been there a lot. Like 10 times or so, I’d guess. In the last year! It’s really becoming our second home. We’ve seen one of the ER pediatricians at least three times.
In fact, we saw him when we were there on Friday night with Martha. Did I tell you that story? No, of course not, because I’ve been on a bloggy break. More on that later.
Anyway, we got to our familiar “home-away-from-home” ER about 15 minutes after leaving the original “close-to-home-but-NOT-good-enough” ER, and of course Allan was seen by a nurse within 15 minutes. Not too long after that, another nurse came out and told him they were sending him back for X-rays, and then another one came and gave him steroids. (My man has had a REALLY bad cold, and had reached a point where breathing was barely happening).
The X-rays took less than 5 minutes, and within just a few more minutes he had a breathing treatment. They were super backed up in this ER, but in less time than it took to see TRIAGE at the other ER, Allan pretty much had a diagnosis and was just waiting for the official word from the doc who could give him meds. He was breathing again, thanks to the breathing treatment and the roids, and feeling better all around.
So, lesson learned – it may be farther away, but it’s the RIGHT place to go. We should have known – after the 10 times we’ve been there for the kids. I think the only one who hasn’t gone to that ER now… is ME.
Knocking on my computer desk a few times right now, just because.
Oh, and stay tuned for the fascinating story of a puffy pink heart up a two year old’s nose. It’s a RIOT!
But right now, I need a nap. I didn’t get to bed until after 3 a.m., and I’m going to let Sid the Science Kid do a little babysitting while I go “rest my eyes” in the recliner.
Have a super day, ya’ll!
I’m back… kinda!
Things are still “sniffly” around here with all the cold and flu symptoms, but I am determined to have a GOOD day today. Wanna know why?
It’s my fourth wedding anniversary!
Because Allan and I been through so much in the last few years, it feels like it should be more like our eighth anniversary (and I promise I mean that in a GOOD way). It’s been a BUSY four years, and we have two more beautiful children and a wonderful home to show for it.
And I’m just a tiny bit bummed to be breathing through my mouth while trying not to sneeze on my hubby. It’s just SO romantic to give him a kiss and then reach for a kleenex to wipe my nose. NOT!
And with the kids sick, we don’t want to risk getting Granma sick, so we aren’t going out tonight. (Which is TOTALLY ok, Granma, don’t you dare feel bad!)
Anyway… to cheer myself up a bit, AND to celebrate this anniversary, I’m giving away FOUR $5 gift certificates to the digital scrapbook shop of the winners’ choice! Yes, that’s right FOUR! (You know, since it’s our fourth anniversary – that was obvious, right?)
But, there’s a catch (isn’t there always?)
You need to leave a comment to be eligible to win one of the gift certificates (naturally), and IN your comment, you need to do some enabling (that’s what we do around here!). It’s Wednesday WOW with a twist. WOW us with your links! Tell everyone about a favorite new product that you just know we can’t live without. OR tell us about a fantastic blog post you read this week. OR show off your latest designs that you’re sure will be a best-seller (designers, that one’s for you!)
So… leave a comment… enable (with links)… be entered to win!
I’ll leave the comments open until Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. pacific, and then I’ll use random.org to pick four winners. Or I’ll pick my favorite four comments and THOSE will be the winners. Or I’ll throw a dart at my computer monitor…no, I won’t do that. I’ll think I’ll figure it out on Friday, but I promise there will be FOUR winners!
So… comment away!
(And you know, anniversary gifts are totally welcome. I promise Allan would be THRILLED to get a coupon or a gift certificate or a digital scrapbook download. Oh wait.. no, that would be ME that would be THRILLED).
(Yes, I just begged for gifts. Is that wrong?)
(Ok, nevermind… forget I said anything – just leave a comment, people - I’LL be doing the giving around here).
Happy anniversary to me… happy anniversary to me… happy anniVERsary to MEEEEEE…. happy anniversary to ME! (oh yeah, and hubby to)
Guess who got this second cold? Yep, that’s right… Mama. I was down and out ALL weekend with it – only got out of bed yesterday when I HAD to – and I’m still feeling the ill effects of it. I’m not sure I really want to be out of bed today either – I may go right back and get comfy again as soon as I hit publish. Unfortunately, I think lil Allan is going to be suffering from it today too. He was sneezing and sniffling all night. Could be a really long “fun” day.
So, bear with me another day or two as I recover and help my children recover from this. I have some fabulous Designer Showcase interviews coming later this week and next, and a few other fun things! I just gotta get my energy back first!
Have a happy Monday, and I pray “no cold germs” for you and yours…
…I was a candy wrapper-er! Or a person who wrapped candy bars. Well, mostly I designed and printed and cut and shipped wrappers, but now that I’m in Vegas I definitely do more wrapping. (Ok, that’s not true – my mother-in law-works for me and does most of the wrapping). Anyway…
I have owned and operated a candy wrapper business since January 2000. Heavenly Promises is the site name, and over the last almost 9 years I have enjoyed being a part of baby celebrations and wedding celebrations and church functions… and so much more!
This weekend, I decided I needed to give the site a facelift AND move it to a new server AND completely over-haul the shopping cart. (What WAS I thinking?) It’s taken me a few days to get things just right, but I’m nearly there. I’m still finishing up a lot of little loose ends over at Heavenly Promises, so my apologies for the “lite” post today here at DigiScrapChat.
As we get closer to the holidays, I may make a few more references to candy wrappers and fun party favors. I not only offer printed wrappers and labels at Heavenly Promises, but I have ANOTHER website called DelightWrappers.com where you experience digital scrapbookers can download, customize and print your own wrappers. NEXT week I’ll be adding to THAT website, and hopefully we’ll have some fun Halloween-y freebies for ya!
Happy Tuesday!
It has been a rather long week around here, with my husband out of town (did I mention this every day – I think I did!)
I managed to get a few things done, but not as many as I’d hoped. I had a few extra phone call conversations with out-of-town friends, which was awesome. There were a few difficult moments too, but I won’t go there right now.
Overall, the week was about a B-.
And since hubby (and my baby boy – did I mention he is gone TOO?) won’t be home until tomorrow night very late, I’d like some help figuring out what to do for fun tonight and/or tomorrow. Now, keep in mind, I have NO CAR. Well, that’s not true – my father in law would take me anywhere I need to go… but I’d prefer to just stay home and make some fun around here.
So, any ideas? What can I do (with a 6 year old boy and an 18 month old girl) for fun today and tomorrow?
Please help… I need some FUN!
Did you get that? He purchased AN Indiana Jones whip. As in ONE. ONE whip for TWO boys.
And now my day is being counted down via the kitchen timer – 5 minutes at a time – so each boy gets his equal and fair share of time with the Indiana Jones whip.
I had to put a stop to the “how many more minutes, Mom?” question. Because asking 47 times in five minutes gets a little old. For Mommy.
And speaking of Mommy losing her mind, I must tell you that the Indiana Jones theme song plays every time you (they) crack the whip.
Except that it also re-starts every time you (they) crack it again.
And if you are a 3 year old or 6 year old boy, you crack the whip approximately 1500 times in a 5 minute time frame (yes, that’s probably physically impossible, but it SEEMS like 1500 times).
So, me and the Indiana Jones theme song? We are NOT friends any more.
Time for my husband to pick a new ring tone for his cell phone.
Seriously…
And with that, I need to re-set the timer!
