Wednesday WOW… goodbye Trish Jones!

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Recently I asked designers for links to fabulous WOW layouts using their products. As a result, I have a lot of fun layouts to share with you over the next few weeks, and I WAS going to start this morning with the first of many.

BUT… I read a post at DST yesterday that stunned me, and I decided that today’s Wednesday WOW needed to have a different slant.

If you haven’t heard yet, Trish Jones is retiring from designing. She’s changing her focus… moving on to a new passion. Which is great for her, and sad for us!

But, she’s going off with a bang and a half - if you hurry, you can purchase her ENTIRE store for only $19.99. I can’t even begin to tell you what a WOW price that is, and what a WOW deal that is!

It’s only good for like 2 1/2 more days though…

So, hurry on over and pay the small, small fee… and start downloading! Maybe opening all those zips will take away the sting a bit of her retirement news.

Happy Wednesday WOW, everyone! Next week, we’ll check out some FABULOUS layouts!

Wednesday WOW - share your digital scrapbook layouts!

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

I haven’t posted any Wed WOW layouts in awhile, and today will be no exception.

Instead, I’d like to ask YOU to share YOUR “WOW” layouts with the DigiScrapChat audience.

Will you?

Please?

Share your FAVORITE layout… one that makes you say “WOW, look what I did” when you look at it.  Post a link using Mr Linky below… and if you want to tell us more about it, you can use the comments section too.  Now, this is supposed to be one of YOUR OWN layouts, not your favorite from someone else, BUT if you want to share a link to someone else’s awesome layout, that’s really OK too.

So… share away!

Please?

Wednesday WOW

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Three weeks ago today my sister found out that she has breast cancer.

Since that initial diagnosis, she’s had a surgical port put in, a hair-cut (to minimize the trauma when her hair falls out), a round of chemo and the resulting nausea and fatigue, an immunity booster shot (which made her very tired and achy, ironically because she’s still pretty healthy, other than the cancer).

We bought a fabulous wig for her - she looks like a rock star when she wears it - and we shopped for new make-up because she’s going to need new products each month to minimize the possibility of infections.

Today she went in for her weekly blood draw (they have to be sure her blood count doesn’t get too low), and afterwards she went shopping for a few new blouses, because she didn’t have any button down blouses, and those will make her chemo appointments easier.

Oh, and last week we ordered some breast cancer scrapbooking papers and elements so she can complete some layouts for the California state fair coming later this summer. She originally was planning to enter scrapbook layouts designed around a weekend camping trip - but chemo came up instead and the camping trip had to be cancelled. Now she is planning to scrapbook our hair-cut appointment (I got my hair-cut too, along with another good friend of hers), and maybe she’ll do a page on the wig shopping experience. The breast cancer kits came today, and she is feeling pretty good, so hopefully she’ll have time to get the layouts done before her next chemo this next Monday.

I know this is a lot of info about my sister, and it’s not really digi-scrap related, but I promise it will all make sense if you finish today’s post.

My sister is a paper scrapbooker, and she loves to scrapbook and make cards. She is really good at it, and has won a bunch of awards at the California State fair, and she was slowly building a scrap-for-others business. But right now, she needs to concentrate on getting better, on beating cancer. And she is going to need financial help to do it. Her husband was laid off from his job right after Christmas, and they have no medical insurance.

So, I put my thinking cap on, and combined Sarah’s love for paper scrapbooking with my love for digi scrapbooking, and I came up with a plan to help raise money for my sister. I’m going to be creating a series of templates based on sketches I made while looking through her scrapbooks.

And today’s Wednesday WOW post is not a post about a beautiful layout, or even a fantastic kit that you NEED to buy. Rather, I’d like to say thank you to some fantastic folks in the digi scrap community. Specifically some extremely generous designers who have offered their help, designs, and encouragement for this project.

To help me make REALLY COOL templates, I asked for some help, and to date, I’ve had over 25 responses from designers willing to let me use their products to make the templates even better than I ever could have made them alone.

There have been plenty of “choke me up, make me cry” kind of moments in the last three weeks. More than a few of those moments have been while reading the responses from the designers. I won’t ever be able to say thank you enough, and this post is really only the beginning. (Believe me, you’ll be hearing more as the project continues!)

So, ladies… THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart. THANK YOU for being so generous and kind and willing to help someone in desperate need. THANK YOU for the encouragement and prayers you’ve offered. You are all truly WOW worthy!

Wednesday WOW - Father’s Day Edition

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

It’s been awhile since I showcased some amazing talent on Wednesday!  Time for a Wednesday WOW post, and let’s make it a Father’s Day edition, shall we?  I scoured the galleries for some fantastic layouts about Dads and Fathers and Daddies, and here are a few WOW layouts.  (Be sure to click on the layouts to leave them some gallery lovin’!)

I just love all the layers of this layout.  From Julie_M’s gallery at DST:

Awesome white space layout!  From NadineV’s gallery:

Such a beautiful layout, in all ways. From Gachal’s gallery:

Awesome journaling, love the “vintage” pic too!  From suzyqscraps’ gallery:

Do you know of some other fantastic WOW Father’s Day layouts?  Feel free to hook us up in the comments!

Happy Wednesday WOW, folks!

We’ll get back to our regularly scheduled programming… NEXT week!

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

So, apparently I’m all worn out from NSD, how about you? In addition to all the hoopla over the weekend, we’ve all had colds (again!) around here this week and I’ve not been sleeping great with all the coughing and sniffling and snoring. (You know it’s bad when you wake YOURSELF up with your OWN snoring!) (TMI? So sorry!)

So, since I’m unprepared this week to post a Wednesday WOW layout, what if you all help me out, and link us to some FABULOUS galleries out there. Can you do that for me? Just leave a comment (please), with a link or two to some scrappers who you love, adore, admire, envy (wait, not that one). I’d love to do some scrappin’ this week with some of my new goodies, and I need some inspiration - how about you??

And I do promise - we’ll get back to our regularly scheduled programming… SOON!

(You thought that was all, but it’s not.  I’m doing a “just because giveaway” today!  Just because I like to do giveaways - I’m rather addicted to it, in fact - I’m giving away two $5 gift certificates to the digi-scrap store of the winners’ choice. But you have to leave a comment to win. You can’t win if I don’t have your name!)

(Please leave me a comment, with a gallery link!)

(Is this considered begging?)

(Ok, I’ll quit with the parenthesis now!)
