Day SIX of Giveaways – And another Designer Showcase!
By char on Oct 6, 2008 in Giveaway Day
It’s Day SIX of 31 Days of Giveaways! And I’m excited to bring you another Designer Showcase, this time with Donna Duncombe. Donna has some fun stuff to share with us, INCLUDING a great kit giveaway!
To get the interview started, I asked Donna to share a really quick bio with us:
I hail from Brisbane, Australia and I’ve been selling at Nuts4Digi since April. Also, I am now offering up my wares at The Hybrid Shoppe and I’m very excited to be involved in this gorgeous new store. If you are interesting in the random ramblings of a nutty designer, my blog is called Hickory Dickory. Its constantly updated and there is a freebie on the first Monday of each month.
Interview Questions…
Describe your design and/or scrappin’ style:
A little eclectic and individual. I like paper. A lot. And whimsical things. I also adore bright colours.
When I design, I go in thinking about what I would personally like to scrap with. I also draw on my paper scrapping style which is why I love papers so much
What is your favorite part of digital scrapbook design?
The end result. I love seeing it all come together on the preview and then checking to see what my CT has made with it.
What has been your biggest challenge in designing?
Overcoming the feeling that I ‘needed’ to be like everyone else in the digi-design world. I think I have gone past that though, and I’m quite happy with my designs now. They bring across my quirkiness and love of fun.
Who are your digi-scrap mentors or heroes? Why?
I have two very special mentors who have held my hand through the entire transition period into becoming a designer. Debbie McKenzie (Digi Illusions) and Fiona Renwick have helped me so much with learning about the design world, about using my program better and how to make my designs be the best they can be.
Techie question – what software do you use to design/scrap?
Photoshop and Illustrator
What does your “design space” look like?
ROFL one BIG mess!!
I did a LO on this for ADSR I think. It looks a lot cleaner in the picture than it currently does!

Do you have any hobbies, aside from digital scrapbooking? (And if so, where do you find the time?)
I still paper scrapbook. I go along to CM workshops every few months and just sit and scrap until I have an album finished (I learned how to speed scrap fairly quickly now time is limited!). I also make jewellery and create what I like to think of as ‘junk art’, basically art pieces using a mixture of stuff – paint, pencils, recycled bits & pieces – its a great way to chill out. Oh and I like to cook LOL
I live a very hectic lifestyle ROFL
Do you have a favorite product (kit/element pack/etc) that you’ve produced?
hmmm… decisions, decisions… My most recent kit is my current favourite (Note from Char – I did a little editing here, since Donna finished this interview up a couple of weeks ago… and she finished this new, recent kit – keep reading to see more!)
But of the ones I have in store, definitely my Cuteness kit. I love the bright, cheery colours and the quirky feel to it.

Any sneak peeks for us on some future products?
Here is a sneak peak on my new kit. Let’s just say its pretty and has a lot of polka dots and princesses in it!
(Note from Char: Again, Donna actually finished this interview a couple of weeks ago, and I held on to it to use during October’s Birthday Bonanza. If you keep on reading, you just might get to see a BIT MORE of this new kit!)
And, because I like these questions, I’m borrowing from James Lipton and the “Actor’s Studio”, (who borrowed from French interviewer Bernard Pivot) … (except I leave out the curse word question, since this is a family blog)…
1. What is your favorite word?
Okedoke. I say it and type it ALL the time!
2. What is your least favorite word?
Anything I can’t pronounce properly LOL
3. What turns you on?
Colours and warm sunshine.
4. What turns you off?
Drabness and anything dreary
5. What sound or noise do you love?
Kids sleeping (my two breath heavy)
6. What sound or noise do you hate?
The high-pitched squealing of a toddler LOL
7. What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
I would like to try my DH’s job so I can appreciate first-hand how much work he puts in (and then of course, he can do MY job/s lol)
8. What profession would you not want to participate in?
Anything that requires cleaning up muck and getting heaps smelly and dirty. Oh hang on… I’m a mother… I already do that… lol
9. If you believe that Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?
Welcome Home.

Scrapping with that kit would be easy. I have two everyday princesses and one of them has the favorite color of pink.

What a lovely kit and thanks for giving us the chance to win it. I would use it to show my daughter what a princess she really is even though she doesn’t think so

First time to Digiscrap. Looked and looked but didn’t find today’s freebie?
Not much of a scrap booker as is only myself and no little girl pictures. But I have accumulated a stack of pretty paper that I can use to make cards and Artist Trading Cards. So, there are several elements from Donna’s kit, Everyday Princess, that I would use in a quirky ATC.

My daughter had her birthday yesterday and after she went to bed, my dh and I were sitting and talking about how lucky we are to have 2 great children. (he’s not the sappy kind so I took this as a great moment) I would use this kit in a layout about a daughter and put a title of “not Princess for a Day, but she’s our Princess EVERY day.” It really is a cute kit.
