It’s Father’s Day…

…and I’ll be spending most of the morning flying HOME from Nebraska.  The weekend trip away was nothing like I expected it to be, mostly because we got bad news right before we left, and the news that continued to come in once we were here…. well, it didn’t get any better.  (I wrote about the bad news on my other blog, so I won’t repeat it here, but feel free to go read… and please pray).

A lot of the lightheartedness that might have come along with this trip was not here, as we (the adults) were bogged down a bit in the details and the feelings and processing all the information.  At the same time, there was a depth to this visit that might otherwise have been missing.  There were more hugs, more squeezes with kiddos, more conversations that might have not happened otherwise.  I have tried to drink deeply in all the experiences and to take snapshots in my mind of everything.  I also took a few (BUNCH) of actual snapshots.  (Are they still called snapshots when you use a digital camera?)

When Samuel and I arrive home today, I expect to hold my husband tight.  I expect to have a 3 year old who won’t let me go for awhile (apparently he does NOT like Mommy and Samuel being gone!)  I expect to sit and watch and rejoice with my baby girl as she walks all over the place.  (She took her first unassisted, true walking steps the night before I left).  I will take pictures of my kids with their Dad for Father’s Day, and I will take time to ENJOY my family.  It will be a Father’s Day we won’t forget quickly.  There is always good that comes from bad, even really bad news, and the good thing for this weekend is that it is serving as a reminder of what is TRULY important.

Family, children, connections, conversation, sharing and caring, loving and living in the moment.

What will you and your family be doing for Father’s Day?
