I think there isn’t any better way for me to jump back into blogging than to do a Gratituesday post. Especially with this being the week of Thanksgiving and all…
I’m going to do a list (in no particular order), because it’s still early here and that’s about all my brain can handle.
So… today… I’m thankful for…
1. Hugs from my 3 year old. Lil Allan is so good about coming up to me (a bunch of times a day), and giving me hugs and then asking, “do you feel better now, mama?” He also does a “repetitive” hug thing, where he opens his arms and envelopes me, over and over and over again. So I get like 20 hugs per minute. (This is for the days when I’m especially not feeling well… which has been a lot lately). Ahh.. the healing power of the hug. It may not be a cure-all, but it sure does help!
2. Laughter from my 20 month old. That child… Martha has been giving us a run for our money since her BIRTH, and it only gets better (worse?) every day! Last night she was going around and around in circles and making herself dizzy on PURPOSE. She’d fall to the ground and say, “oopsie” and laugh and laugh. Even a grumpy mama could find humor in that!
3. Sweet phone conversations with my 6 year old. Samuel leaves us every weekend for two days to spend time with my ex-husband. Yesterday I called him around 4 p.m. to check in with him and find about his day at school. He was busy playing a computer game and was a little too busy to talk at that moment. But, around 7 p.m. the phone rang and it was him calling back… not distracted and just wanting to touch base with his Mama. He didn’t really have much to say, but he didn’t want to get off the phone either. So we just chatted about lots of little things. It makes me happy to know he wants to be connected to me enough that he’ll make up things to talk about.
4. My husband who eats things he’s not fond of, just because I made it for dinner. This sounds so silly, but lately it’s been all I can do to get dinner ready. And sometimes what I do fix - it’s a really SIMPLE dinner. Like last night. And Allan… well, it wasn’t his favorite meal, or even one he’d prefer to eat. But he ate it anyway, and was thankful for it.
5. My mom is coming to town! I’ve mentioned I’ve been having health issues… and there have been a few times that I’ve wished my mother could come for a few days to help get some things done, and take care of the kids so I could get an extra nap or two in. (Plus you know… just be here, being my mom and all). Well, I would never have asked her to come, since she is in the middle of caring for my sister (with stage 4 breast cancer) and my sister’s kids, AND helping my dad care for his mother with Alzheimer’s and his father who is having a tough time adjusting to the “new normal” that is a debilitating disease. Anyway… she’s just too busy with important things there in CA, and it wouldn’t have been fair to put my burden and need on her shoulders… but two days ago she said out of the blue that she really wanted to come see us for a few days, and she worked it out, and now she is coming this weekend!! I’m not sure who is more excited - me or the kids. (I think it might be ME).
6. The turkey that is defrosting in my fridge. The turkey that needs to be defrosted in my freezer. (Yes, I’m doing two turkeys this week - we have a very small oven, so I need to do two). The groceries that have already been purchased. The menu that has already been planned. I’m hoping it will be a fairly smooth and easy Thanksgiving, and praying for strength to get it all done well! And I’m so, so thankful to have everything we need and want in our pantry. We have been overly blessed, and are without want this year.
7. And finally (although I could probably write for another hour, now that I’ve begun)… finally.. I’m thankful for this blog, for Laura’s blog, for all the other websites and bloggers out there who create community. It would be easy sometimes to just curl up and sleep and NOT connect with others. But that wouldn’t be healthy… and I’m thankful to have a place to come TO connect.
So… that’s my list for today. What are YOU thankful for this week? Consider writing a blog post and linking up over at Laura’s blog today, so we can all read about it!
Happy Tuesday y’all…
