Saturday Question… digi scrappin’ your faith?
By char on Sep 6, 2008 in Saturday Question
This weekend I am so lucky to be attending an event called “Deeper Still” here in Las Vegas. Beth Moore, Kay Arther, and Priscilla Shirer are here, along with Travis Cottrell and his worship team. It’s a Friday night/all day Saturday event filled with worship and praise, prayer and encouragement, incredible speaking and renewal. (And challenge!)
Oh, as a quick side-note… last night I was so, so lucky to get to meet Miss Melanie and Miss Sophie of the BigMama and BooMama blogs. These gals write two of the best blogs out there, and they are involved with Compassion International and Lifeway (the company who puts on the Deeper Still events). I was almost as excited to meet them as I was to attend the event itself! (Ok, I was basically AS excited to meet them as I was to attend the event itself)! And of course they did not disappoint. Sweet, beautiful, kind ladies with adorable southern drawls. I loved every second of visiting with them, although I’m sure I spoke way too fast and made NO sense half the time, in my giddiness and nervousness. I am going to find them and bug them again today, because I forgot my camera last night and I MUST get a picture with the two of them. (Hello, digital scrapbooker… forget your camera? What in the WORLD?!)
Anyway… back to Deeper Still…
Last night was a three hour portion, with some fabulous singing and worship led by Travis and his team. After that, we listed for nearly two hours to Miss Priscilla Shirer. I have never heard her speak, and I was unprepared for and blown away by her words. She spoke on the seasons of life, and the wilderness (her lesson came from Exodus 19), and about how we have a personal invitation from God to experience him individually. It was literally one of the most incredible sermons I have ever heard. If you ever have a chance to hear Priscilla, jump!
So, what does that have to do with digital scrapbooking? Well, quite a bit, as it turns out. I am a wife, a mother, a sister and daughter… and I use digital scrapbooking to record the history and stories of my family. I think it is incredibly important to preserve our stories, because if we don’t, who will? A person can do it in a variety of ways, and I have chosen the medium of digi-scrappin’ to do it.
But, one thing that has been lacking…that I want to do more of…that needs to be preserved even MORE than the day-to-day life story of my family… is our spiritual heritage. Our spiritual journey, our struggles and our sorrows, our joys and triumphs, our faith and our lack therof. My children NEED to know these things. My grandchildren (yet unborn) NEED to know these things. And I plan to begin recording these stories, again using digital scrapbooking to do it.
So, my Saturday question to you (finally!) is this – are you preserving the story of your spiritual journey? Are you writing down the stories of your faith, and why it is important, and what it is that you want your children to value above all else? If you are, please share a bit about that in the comments (or send me an email – I’d love to hear details), and link us up to any layouts you’ve posted. And if you haven’t done this, but want to, can you share what it is that has kept you from doing it? I know my own personal reasons for being slow to write and artistically create the story of my spiritual legacy, but I’d like to hear your reasons as well!
Have a super weekend folks, and expect a whole bunch more yakking about Deeper Still in the next week or so. Today, in just a couple of hours, I get to go listen to Kay Arthur and Beth Moore. Woohoo!

I love prompts that challenge us to look deeper and not only scrap the joyous moments in our lives but all those when our faith is tested!

What a great question you have posed! I have been thinking about this lately, too. In fact just this morning I realized I was planning another layout in my head that would showcase a piece we sing in our church choir. Here’s a link to one I did recently on that theme: http://www.digishoptalk.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=404612
Hope you enjoy the rest of the spiritual conference you are attending. It sounds great!

Faithbooking is a great way to preserve the important memories- I think that a scrapbook of our faith and important family stories (highs and lows) will end up being a treasured heirloom to our children. I’ve just started designing at faithsisters.com and LOVE the challenges that they do on faith based subjects.

Great post. Huge fan of BooMama and BigMama too.
I have included some scripture verses in some of my layouts about my kids, but have yet to do one about my own personal faith. Don’t know why I have not considered this before, as it would be a natural way to share my testimony.
Thanks for the challenge. Given me lots to think about.

I have done a couple of layouts, but that is as far as I have gotten.
I wasn’t able to see Deeper Still as I was visiting my daughter, but I did buy 2 of Priscilla Shirer’s book, and they are awesome.
I have read several of Beth’s books, she is incredible-so inspiring.

I am currently working on a couple photo books documenting my mission trips to guatemala with groups from my church. Here are some of the pages I’ve made:

I haven’t done it but it sure sounds like a wonderful thing to do. I am constantly tested but I believe my newest layout about homeschooling may have touched on some of this.
